BCCI reportedly issues strict Ranji Trophy mandate to Ishan Kishan

Two Indian cricketers who recently came under scrutiny are Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer. Initially, Shreyas Iyer had complained of back spasms just a day after the Vizag Test which put his place in uncertainty. As per ESPN Cricinfo, he was cleared by the medical staff of the back spasms.

Hence, he was available for selection. However, the national selectors axed him from the squad for his underperformances. His series of low scores in the first two Tests forced the selectors to take the bold call. On the other hand, Ishan Kishan is not part of the squad for the ongoing Test series against England.

Despite being fit as a fiddle, the southpaw has not made up his mind to feature in the Ranji Trophy to spice it up in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, which will get underway from March 22 onwards.

BCCI issues Ranji Trophy mandate to Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan who was not included in India’s squad for the ongoing Test series against England, refused to turn up to Ranji Trophy games despite advice from India’s head coach Rahul Dravid. Instead of playing in the Ranji Trophy, the youngster was spotted training with Hardik Pandya and Krunal in Baroda.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a strict call as it reportedly ordered Ishan Kishan to feature in the Ranji Trophy. Apart from him, the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Krunal Pandya have been instructed to report to their respective state teams to play in the Ranji Trophy.

A BCCI official, on the condition of anonymity, told Cricbuzz that the cricketers must make themselves available for domestic cricket. “Players cannot simply prioritize international cricket or the IPL. They must make themselves available for domestic cricket and honour their commitments to their respective state teams,” he added.
