Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has been in the headlines of late after he surprised the cricket fraternity by stepping down as Test captain post the Test series against South Africa. India performed incredibly well in the Centurion Test but the vice-versa happened in the next two Tests.

South Africa dictated terms and went on to win the second and third Test respectively. India lost the series by 2-1 and Kohli has been relieved of Test captaincy duties as well. The captaincy saga has indeed sparked controversy in Indian cricket. It all started when Kohli stepped down as T20I captain after the T20 World Cup 2021.

Since then, unexpected changes took place in Indian cricket. BCCI reportedly sacked Virat Kohli as ODI captain and then appointed Rohit Sharma as the new leader. Rohit is the leader in ODI and T20I formats. Moreover, the majority of the selectors in the selection committee panel wanted only one white-ball captain.

Earlier in the week, a report surfaced on the internet claiming that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly wanted to send a show-cause notice to Virat Kohli ahead of the South Africa series. The report went viral on the internet in the wake of Kohli’s remarks on the captaincy saga during the pre-tour press conference.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly breaks silence on the matter

The former Indian captain Ganguly has now reacted to the report of him wanting to send a show-cause notice to Virat Kohli. The BCCI President dismissed the report in the first place. When news agency ANI approached Sourav Ganguly for a remark on the report that went viral of late, he said, “Not true.”

When Kohli announced his decision to step down as Test captain last week, Ganguly took to Twitter and added that it was “Kohli’s personal decision.” At the same time, Ganguly believes Kohli will be an important player to take this team to great heights in the future.
