Aaron Finch becomes the first Australian batsman to hit 100 sixes in T20Is
There is no cricketer in this world with only ups in his cricketing career. Every cricketer goes through ups and downs. Australia captain Aaron Finch ran through a lean period where he struggled to score runs with the bat.
In the Big Bash League, the Melbourne Renegades captain had an absolute shocker with the bat. His terrible form saw him aggregate only 179 runs at a poor batting average of 13.79. The fact that he didn’t go past the 50-run mark literally sums up his overall performance.
Finch’s performance went from bad to worse even in international cricket. He is currently leading his team in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand. The opening batsman got out for just 1 and 12 in the first two games.
Captain Aaron Finch creates history in T20Is
Australia captain Aaron Finch suddenly rose from the ashes to deliver a complete performance in the third T20I as he scored 69 off 44 balls including 8 boundaries and 2 sixes. He continued his good touch in the fourth T20I against the Kiwis when all other batsmen failed to score.
Finch scored an impressive 79 off just 55 balls including 5 fours and 4 sixes. He was named the man of the match for his batting. In the process, he created two records to his name. At first, he surpassed David Warner (2265 in 81 games) to become the highest run-scorer for Australia in T20Is. Finch scored 2310 runs in 70 games.
He also became the first Australian cricketer to hit 100 sixes in T20Is. The right-handed batsman accomplished the landmark in the fourth T20I against the Black Caps at Sky Stadium.
Finch also became the sixth batsman to enter the elusive list of players who scored 100 or more sixes in T20Is. It is also worth mentioning here that Guptill is leading the sixes charts with 135 sixes. Rohit Sharma follows next on the list with 127 sixes. Eoin Morgan (113 sixes), Colin Munro (107 sixes) and Chris Gayle (105 sixes) come next on the list.
Finch’s spectacular 79 helped Australia win the fourth T20I by 50 runs in Wellington. The fifth and final T20I will see both teams battling it out with each other to win the series. The series decider will take place at Westpac Stadium on March 7.
