5 players DC could retain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction
Delhi Capitals’ IPL journey has been a story of ups and downs since the inception of the IPL. Back then, when they were “Delhi Daredevils”, they showed early potential by making it to the semi-finals in the inaugural season.
Despite having star players like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and AB de Villiers at their disposal the team, DC struggled to maintain consistent form as they finished in the lower half of the points table. The franchise changed its name to Delhi Capitals in 2019.
The team management signed Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Prithvi Shaw and experienced overseas stars like Kagiso Rabada and Marcus Stoinis, which helped the team turn their fortunes around. As the seasons progressed, Rabada, Stoinis and Iyer shifted their bases to PBKS, LSG and KKR respectively.
DC reached the finals for the first time in IPL 2020 but lost to Mumbai Indians in the showdown. DC failed to qualify for the playoffs last season and it remains to be seen how they will go about their business in the upcoming season. They will look to retain their top players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
1. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant returned to professional cricket after a 14-month break to lead the franchise in IPL 2024. Under Rishabh Pant’s captaincy, the Delhi-based franchise failed to qualify for the playoffs as they finished sixth on the table with 14 points.
They won seven games and lost as many games before failing to make the cut in the top four. Despite the franchise’s failure, they will look to retain Pant. Rishabh Pant has been a part of the IPL since IPL 2016.
He has played 111 games and has scored 3000 to 84 runs at an average of 35.3, including one century and 18 half centuries. Notably, he has maintained an impressive strike rate of 148.9 and the 27 year old will look to add more runs to his tally in the upcoming season.
