Joe Root made a strong statement with the bat during the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s. The right-handed batter was named the man of the match for his masterful batting performance in the Test opener.
The 31-year-old’s knock proved to be vital for England. His knock helped the team secure only their second win of the current cycle of the ICC World Test Championship. England won the game by 5 wickets at the Home of Cricket and took the first lead in the three-match Test series.
Root might have scored just 11 runs in the first innings but he made up for poor knock by dictating terms in the fourth innings. The former England captain switched gears when it mattered the most. Root scored a match-winning unbeaten 115 including 12 fours in the run-chase.

While Joe Root was being praised for his terrific performance with the bat, he was also praised for his recent act during the Test match against New Zealand. Some of the users were literally taken aback after witnessing something strange at the non-striker’s end.
While Root was batting on 87, he let his bat position in such a way that it didn’t even require any support in the first place. The incident happened when he was standing at the non-striker’s end.

It was when he didn’t hold his bat but the object remained standstill in the same position. The video clip of the same has gone viral on social media channels. During the game, Root broke several records in the process.
He became the second English player after Sir Alastair Cook to complete 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Apart from that, he is also the first English cricketer to cross the 17,000-run mark in the international circuit.
