The Indian Premier League (IPL) is known for its thrilling encounters since the tournament kick-started in 2008. The cricket fraternity has witnessed countless roller-coaster rides, which made the IPL as the best and the most-watched domestic T20 league in the world.
However, that wouldn’t have been possible without star-studded line-ups. However, not every cricketer who has featured in the IPL has had a long run in the tournament. Some big names in cricket history have played just one match in the IPL, leaving fans wondering what could have been.

1. Brad Haddin
Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman, Brad Haddin was known for his exceptional agility behind the stumps and was best-known to take terrific diving catches during the playing days of his career. Apart from that, he was a handy lower-order batter where he added flesh to the team’s scoreboard.
During 2011, he had a brief stint in the IPL with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). His solitary IPL appearance came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In that game, he scored 18 runs off 11 balls, including a couple of fours and a six, with an impressive strike rate of 163.64. After this knock, he didn’t get another chance to showcase his skills in the tournament.
2. Mashrafe Mortaza
Mashrafe Mortaza was one of the pivotal figures in Bangladesh cricket history. He was a terrific bowler, pinch hitter and was celebrated for his leadership. Under his captaincy, Bangladesh cricket reached new heights. In the second edition of the IPL, he got his chance to make his mark in the IPL with KKR.
Needless to say, his IPL debut against the Deccan Chargers (now-defunct) didn’t go as planned. He bowled the final over against Rohit Sharma wherein he leaked 26 runs. His expensive spell cost the game. Overall, he ended up with 58 runs in four overs. It was his first and last appearance in the IPL.
